Show Slockett with vote that you’ve had enough
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 2, 2012 10:29 am
This spring, The Gazette editorialized that Johnson County Auditor Tom Slockett should step down from office, in part because of his soliciting signatures for his nomination petition in the office during work time (“Johnson County auditor's final straw,” April 6).
Several employees felt intimidated and believe this was another incident of a hostile work environment. Although he apologized, I expect a higher standard of a 35-year incumbent.
A hostile work environment was the chief issue for the 2008 candidates, and it would seem that Slockett has not addressed the issue. There is still a high level of staff turnover.
We now have a campaign ethics investigation in process, which creates further doubts about the incumbent and his fitness to hold public office.
Johnson County voters have the chance to tell Slockett that we have had enough of his unprofessional conduct. Please join me in voting for Travis Weipert, a Tiffin City Council member, who will respect his employees, work cooperatively with our other elected officials and streamline Johnson County government.
Vote for Weipert on Tuesday.
