Waterloo, Iowa–Boston College defenseman and former Waterloo Black Hawk Patrick Wey has been invited to attend USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp, USA Hockey announced today.
Wey is one of 44 players under age 20 who has been invited to the camp, which will be held from July 30
th
through August 7
th
in Lake Placid, New York. USA Hockey's coaches and staff will be evaluating the participants in preparation for the 2011 World Junior Championships this winter in Buffalo, New York.
The U.S. National Junior Team captured the gold medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Saskatchewan. Wey was invited to last summer's Evaluation Camp, but was not chosen for the team. Defenseman Blake Kessel was the last former Black Hawk to appear for Team USA in the World Junior competition, skating at the 2009 event in Ottawa.
Wey has enjoyed an exciting past twelve months in his hockey career. During April, he capped his freshman year with the Eagles by winning the 2010 NCAA Division I hockey championship. Almost exactly one year ago, Wey was drafted in the fourth round, 115
th
overall, by the NHL's Washington Capitals. During two years with the Waterloo Black Hawks (2007-2008 and 2008-2009), he appeared in 93 regular season USHL games, notching eight goals and 32 assists.
