As the Kernels conclude their last home stand on Monday, the playhouse that has graced the concourse throughout the season is ready for a new home.
The two-story, Victorian-style playhouse was built by the Building Pros of Eastern Iowa as a way to help local kids. Organizers estimate the cost of the playhouse at more than $15,000, including the hundreds of hours of construction time and the donated materials. All proceeds from the $1 per ticket raffle, which have been sold at all Kernels game this year, are designated for Four Oaks.
With the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 2:05 p.m. on Monday, the drawing for the playhouse will occur at the end of the eighth inning. The winner of the raffle ticket does not need to be present to win and organizers report that the playhouse can be delivered within 100 miles of Cedar Rapids.
