Letter: Shame on youth for fighting at festival

Aug. 21, 2016 1:00 am
In regard to the two different stories in the Tuesday Gazette concerning the youth in our communities ('Hawkeye heroes” and 'Sweet Corn Fest fights bring arrests.”)
The contrasting stories of the 13 children fighting for their lives and the 70 or more teenagers fighting each other at the St. Jude Festival is heartbreaking and shameful, indeed.
The 13 Kid Captains for the Hawkeye football games have been dealt a life of medical issues no one should have to shoulder, let alone young children.
Comparatively, the teenagers at the St. Jude fundraiser are fighting for what reason, a boyfriend/girlfriend or other ridiculous issues?
The medically challenged Kid Captains have not been dealt the options to which these others have been given in their daily lives.
This is beyond shameful and senseless, it is a disgrace to our youth and our community.
