Davis Jr., Virgil E.
Virgil E. Davis Jr., 61, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with military honors to follow. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until services on Monday at the funeral home.
Virgil E. Davis Jr. was born Dec. 16, 1951, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Virgil E. Davis Sr. and Lorraine M. (Shalla) Davis. During the Vietnam War he served his country with honor in the United States Army. For many years Virgil worked as a subcontractor for many floor furnishing stores as a floor covering specialist. He later worked as manager for AutoZone in Washington before his health forced his retirement in 2008.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching the wildlife in his backyard, and his treasured “puppies.”
His family includes his wife, Katherine “Kat” L. Kerr-Davis of Washington; children, James P. Davis of Washington, Jessica Jackson (Ben) of Cedar Rapids, Barbara Kerr of North Liberty, Clayton Kerr (Sarah) of Cedar Rapids, Sonya Sinnwell (Cory) of Cedar Rapids and Misty Davis of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and siblings, Rick Davis (Leann) of Walford, Dixie Gorsh (John) of Oxford and Craig Davis (Terry) of Amana.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial fund has been established in Virgil's memory.
