Anita Freeman, 88, a resident of Cedar Rapids, died at Living Center East on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Lain, and two sons, Jerry (Betty) Ford and Terry Ford, all of Cedar Rapids.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Rebecca Lain, Nicholas (Karin) Ford, Jennifer (Thomas) Ford-Chatfield, Andrew (Shannon) Ford and Benjamin Ford; 13 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong best friend, Margaret Caywood.
Anita was lovingly known as "Grandma Skeets" to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and a brother.
Anita was born June 22, 1925, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Edgar and Ada Taylor Stewart. She married Donald L. Freeman on Dec. 3, 1949, in Iowa City. Don passed away in 1986.
Anita worked in retail at several Cedar Rapids department stores and was a member of the Elks and VFW Auxiliary.
She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed all types of music, dancing, playing board games and bingo.
Her greatest joy was the time spent with her beloved family and friends.
Anita's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.
