Johnson, Helen M.
Helen M. Johnson, 99, of Oxford Junction, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Greg Steckel will officiate. Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Oxford Junction is handling the arrangements.
Helen Mary Sobotka was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Stratilek) Sobotka. She graduated from
Oxford Junction High School in 1930. She married Carroll Johnson in 1944 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death Dec. 3, 1999.
Helen was a manager in many hotel stores. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction. Helen loved painting, singing in the choir and playing piano.
Helen is survived by one brother, Arnold Sobotka of Oxford Junction; five nephews, Dick Sobotka of Olympia, Wash., Bob (Diane) Sobotka of Albuquerque, N.M., Malvern John of Oxford Junction, Roger (Dora) John of Interlochen, Mich., and Jim (Barb) John of Marion; and one niece, Gail Gengler of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Lumir; and two sisters, Pauline and Geraldine.
Memorials are preferred.
