Trapping story showed bad taste, insensitivity

It is too bad we are trapped in a “one newspaper” town and have to continually put up with The Gazette's bad taste and its penchant for subjecting its trapped readers to insensitive stories supporting and glorifying the unnecessary and often horrific slaughter of our wildlife resources.
The March 23 front page story (“Top trapper”) and picture of a trapper displaying hundreds of animals that most likely endured a horrific death was again in bad taste and showed The Gazette's blatant insensitivity to the majority of its readers.
We tolerate pictures of first “kills” by children in hunting families. We read in dismay about the meaningless and bloodthirsty slaughter of mourning doves. We shake our head at the delight in killing a mountain lion in our state.
Most of The Gazette's readers are neither hunters or trappers and no longer view these activities as a necessary and respected part of our culture that they once were.
