Mount Mercy men remain perfect in MCC

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Mount Mercy had four players in double figures and outplayed Clarke in the second half to remain perfect in the Midwest Collegiate Conference with a 76-69 victory over the Crusaders on Sunday at the Kehl Center.
The Mustangs faced a double digit deficit in the first period, but only trailed by two at the break after scoring the final six points of the half. The game stayed tight the rest of the way, until Mount Mercy managed to take the lead for good when sophomore forward Chad Underwood gave the Mustangs a 55-54 advantage with 7:40 to play.
Junior guard David Campbell hit four 3-pointers and led the Mustangs (10-5, 3-0 MCC) with 18 points. Senior guard Jimmy Scroggins had 14 points, junior forward Sam Kenyi 13. Underwood finished with 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Senior guard Jerome Campbell dealt five assists.
Charles Nunn topped the Crusaders (9-7, 2-1 MCC) with 14 points, while Eli Fitzsimmons tallied 11. Bryan Louff added nine points, Chad Boston and Brock Zins eight apiece.
Waldorf (4-8, 0-2 MCC) visits Hennessey Recreation Center on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. conference contest with the Mustangs.
