Two charged after train hits stolen truck near Tama
Mar. 3, 2011 7:25 am
Two youths face multiple charges after police said they stole a truck and parked it on a rail line just west of Tama early Wednesday.
Authorities said an eastbound train struck the unoccupied vehicle on the tracks before 4:30 a.m. The truck was a total loss, and the crash caused damage to the train's engine, according to reports.
Anthony J. Reitinger, 18, and Kolby Starits, 17, both of Tama, have been charged with second-degree theft of the truck hit Wednesday, as well as another vehicle theft last month. They also face charges of criminal mischief, and Reitinger faces a second-degree arson charge, in connection with earlier incidents.
Reitinger is in the county Jail and Starits is at the Central Iowa Detention Center in Eldora.
