Crane, Cletus M.
Cletus M. Crane, 90, a resident of Keystone Care Center, Keystone, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Military honors will be held. Inurnment: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Parnell, at a later date.
Cletus was born Jan. 11, 1919, in Jeffers, Minn., the son of Jess and Mary (Malary) Crane. On April 25, 1946, he married Marguerite “Peg” McCarty in Parnell, Iowa. They were married 61 years.
Cletus joined the United States Army (1940-1945) and served in Northern France and Central Europe. He achieved the grade of sergeant. Cletus received the American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, two bronze battle stars, one Service Strip, one Overseas Service Bar and the Good Conduct Medal.
After returning from service, Cletus drove taxi in Cedar Rapids and later worked for his brother's siding company. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included boxing, bowling and electronics.
Cletus was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings, Jerry, Joe, Mary, Don, Delbert, Delcia and Elizabeth.
Memorials may be directed to Keystone Care Center or St. Luke's Hospice in memory of Cletus.
