Ruth is survived by her daughter, Debra Ehrmann of Grinnell; her son, Jeffrey (Barbara) Ehrmann of Bettendorf; two grandchildren, James (Kelly) Ehrmann of Seattle, Wash., and Timothy Ehrmann of Dubuque; and a great-granddaughter, Heidi Ehrmann. Also surviving are a brother, Donald (Delores) Meyer of Middle Amana; two sisters, Marie Ruegsegger of Atkins and Delores Walters of Wayland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, in 2013; and a brother, Richard Meyer.
Ruth Lillian Meyer was born April 10, 1927, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Frances Coufal Meyer. She received her education in the Amana school system and graduated from Amana High School in 1944. Ruth and George F. Ehrmann were married April 24, 1948, at First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. The couple made their home in Amana.
Ruth was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. Over the years she taught Sunday school, was involved with the Morning Circle and was always available for prayer groups and to serve the less fortunate in the congregation and the community.
While her children were in school she served as a Campfire Girl leader and was active in the Cub Scouts. She was generous with her time to ensure her children were able to participate in a wide variety of activities as they were growing up. Her first love was always her family.
Ruth believed in the educational value of seeing the country and planned yearly vacations to destinations across the United States. She also enjoyed annual trips to Florida with her husband, George. Gardening was a passion for her, as well as reading, and her artistic vision could be witnessed in her needlework and embroidery projects. She was a magnificent and creative cook.
Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, her beauty and the grace with which she handled every aspect of life. She was above all "a good person."
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Rose Haven Nursing Home and Essence of Life Hospice for the kind and compassionate care that was provided to Mom and Oma during her time in their care.
