Iowa delegation deserves our backing

In a recent guest column, Cindy Golding (Sept. 11) referred to a recent ruling from the National Labor Relations Board. saying it would hurt employment.
The ruling stated Boeing could not retaliate against the workers and relocate Dreamliner to South Carolina. I'm concerned and confused about whose employment that would hurt. Pitting workers in one state against those in another in a race to the bottom that ultimately leads to the offshoring of jobs is not good economic development.
HR 2587 would effectively dismantle the National Labor Relations Act and allow corporations to freely retaliate against workers by moving jobs. This would not protect employment but put it at the whim of multinational corporations to move work to wherever workers can be most exploited, be it South Carolina or China.
In the same edition of The Gazette was a list of actions taken by Congress, including a made-in-America amendment to a bill about charter schools. The amendment was opposed by Reps. Steve King and Tom Latham of Iowa as well as five of the six South Carolina delegation, including Reps. Trey Gowdy and Joe Wilson who are also, not coincidentally, co-sponsors of HR 2587.
In light of our current economic climate, it would be irresponsible not to support good jobs. Therefore I thank Reps. Leonard Boswell, Bruce Braley and Dave Loebsack of Iowa for their support of American workers. I urge our delegation in Congress to oppose HR 2587 as well as pending trade agreements with Columbia, Panama and South Korea.
