When the clock hits midnight Monday night, it will be illegal for anyone under 21 to be in an Iowa City bar.
The city's 21-only ordinance takes effect Tuesday, June 1st, aimed at curbing underage drinking.
Iowa City police say they'll be doing bar checks to remind people of the new law. For the next two weekends, more police officers will be patrolling downtown bars and surrounding neighborhoods.
Critics of the ordinance say it will push more underage drinkers to house parties, putting them at greater risk.
The city is reviewing a petition to repeal the 21-only ordinance.
It would let voters decide the fate of the law in November's election.
