Link, Victor Max
Victor Max Link, 90, was born March 10, 1923, in North Dakota and was welcomed at Heaven's Gate by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013. Anxiously waiting in Heaven to greet him was his beloved wife, Iona. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Jay Jentink officiating. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Victor married the love of his life, Iona Ohlhauser, in Fessenden, N.D., on March 16, 1947, and they enjoyed 60 years together. The young couple moved to San Leandro, Calif., in 1947 and relocated to Cedar Rapids in 1953. Victor and Iona were blessed with four children. Victor worked on his parents' farm, drove delivery trucks, and worked at Wilson and Co. for 31 years, working himself up to the position of millwright due to his ability and his willingness to learn new things. Always on the go, Victor also built two homes and repaired cars, lawn mowers, radios, and televisions. He was a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of nothing.”
After retiring, they traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida and enjoyed winters in California. In 2011, he moved to Grand Terrace, Calif., but always considered Cedar Rapids his home.
Victor was a hardworking, self-motivated person. He was a loving and caring person. He enjoyed fishing and using his RV. His family and friends were very important to him. Victor and Iona developed many lifelong friendships through their devotion to church. They were active members of Edgewood Baptist Church and later, Calvary Baptist Church.
Victor is survived by his children, Diana (Gary) Phelps of Grand Terrace, Calif., Linda (Steve) Fisher of Murrieta, Calif., Pamela (Carl) Rigel and Max (Jody) Link of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Link of Ocala, Fla.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Rose Link; his wife, Iona; his sisters, Florence and Ruth; and his brothers, Bill and Marvin.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
