Government health statements frightening

Interesting letter to the editor (Dec. 5) from Cecil Bykerk regarding health insurance for people in Iowa with pre-existing health conditions. If a person is going to apply for health insurance through this government-sponsored plan, it would be prudent for them to read page 5 of the application.
It states in question 6 that “the state of Iowa is not responsible for paying claims under this policy.” Question 7 states, “There is a risk that claims may not be paid if the federal funds and premiums collected are insufficient to cover claims.”
Now, if I were to purchase a health insurance plan, I would like to believe my claims would be paid as outlined in my policy. This type of policy has the potential to be what the government has been condemning from some insurance carriers during the congressional debate on health care.
Once again, we find the federal government entering into a business with no understanding of the consequences of its legislation.
