Civco Medical Supply in Kalona, Iowa hosted a tour and discussion with Iowa 2nd District Congressman, Dave Loebsack on Wednesday. Scott Rude, Civco's VP of Human Resources, gave the Congressman an overview of Civco's 30-year history, market growth into 80 countries, and hurdles to further growth. One of Civco's key hurdles is finding the right fit workforce for its various departments and skill positions. Another new major hurdle is the anticipated cost of the medical device tax associated with the Affordable Care Act.
Currently, Civco Medical Solutions has three Iowa locations in Kalona, Coralville, and Orange City. It also has a location in The Netherlands. Civco is part of Roper Industries, which has helped to fund some of Civco's expansion and strategic acquisitions. Civco also contracts for some work in Indiana, Wisconsin and Colorado.
There are 130 employees at the Kalona location, and over 50 that have been transferred to the new Coralville location.
Several local officials also attended the Civco tour and later discussed area policy issues, including federal flood plain mapping, with Rep. Loebsack. Kalona City Administrator, Ryan Schlabaugh; Kalona Mayor, Ken Herrington; WEDG Director, Ed Raber; and Washington County Supervisors, Wes Rich and Adam Mangold.
