Linkenback, Virginia
Virginia Linkenback, 99, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids. Before moving to Northbrook, Virginia lived nine years at Kingston Hill.
She was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Aug. 24, 1913, the daughter of James Sherman and Mattie Pearl Wentworth. She married Elmer Linkenback on July 24, 1937, at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. She was active at Calvary Baptist Church for many years as a Sunday school teacher and deaconess.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Linkenback of Cedar Rapids and Joyce (Lloyd) Applegate of Cedar Falls; son, Jim (Jo Ellen) Linkenback of Seminole, Fla.; grandchildren, Kent (Machelle) Applegate, Jill Applegate, Brooke (Tim) Farrell and Joel Linkenback; three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lincoln Farrell and Daniel Linkenback; one sister, Gwen (Bob) Schmidt of Charles City, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Linkenback, Alice Sefkow and Gladys Browning; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Elmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or Kingston Hill.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Calvary Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Jay Jentink will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids.
