Letter: Voice your energy policy opinions

I am alarmed by the selection of Scott Pruitt, who has been a close ally of the fossil fuel industry, to run the Environmental Protection Agency. Pruitt's past performance has demonstrated hostility toward the interests of clean air and safe drinking water. My concern has been deepened by the selections of Rick Perry for Secretary of Energy and Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State. These selections appear to show a bias toward dirty energy.
This comes at a time when clean energy alternatives are showing great promise. In Iowa, we have seen significant growth and potential for wind energy and advances in solar energy technology continue to improve its business case. I would not want to see these significant advancements in clean energy alternatives be derailed in favor of entrenched fossil fuel interests that are seeking to protect a 'cash cow” that is based on a finite supply of energy resources. I encourage everyone to get involved in the confirmation process for these nominees by voicing their energy policy opinions to Congress.
