Let’s compromise on traffic cameras

There has been considerable discussion of traffic cameras in Iowa lately. I believe a compromise is in order. Since the goal of the cameras is public safety (as echoed repeatedly by public officials), here's my proposal:
Eliminate red-light cameras as there is little evidence that they enhance safety. In fact, some studies have shown that they actually increase rear-end collisions as drivers brake suddenly to avoid a ticket.
Keep the speed cameras on the Interstate 380 S-curve, as most drivers, and the data, indicate that crashes have been reduced. However, to further enhance safety, the city should erect large, very visible signs before the cameras to alert drivers to slow down.
Yes, these proposals would reduce revenue, but that's not the point of the cameras, right?
