In a Feb. 24 guest column ('What if everybody had a gun?”), retired professor Jozef Figa fantasized about a hypothetical situation where 20 armed citizens shoot at each other and a 'bad person can sit back and enjoy the show.”
He continued, 'to those who think that this scenario is improbable and otherwise crazy, I have a question: Why?” he failed to answer his question, saying only that modification of current firearms laws, 'threatened to transform public places into free-fire zones ...”
Yes, I consider his fantasy scenario 'improbable” and 'crazy”. I'd go so far as to call it impossible and stupid. Trite as it sounds, there's a lot of truth in the old bumper sticker that reads, 'when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.” The draconian laws that Figa and Iowans for Gun Safety advocate will only compromise the safety of honest citizens. Criminals, by definition, do not obey laws.
Figa's bio says he grew up in Poland. Has he forgotten his country's tragic history? Hitler disarmed the Polish citizens. Then he invaded and subjugated them.
