UPDATE: A second person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Kevin Bell last month, police said.
Gabriel D. Taylor, 17, was charged with first-degree murder this morning, police said. Cedar Rapids police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Taylor turned himself in at 11:10 p.m. Monday.
Taylor had four outstanding warrants not related to the Bell murder, Hamblin said. He made his initial appearance on the murder charge in Linn County District court this morning.
Investigators believe Taylor was one of three males who broke into an apartment at 113 First Ave. SW on Jan. 11. Bell, 26, was inside and was shot in the head. He died the next morning at an Iowa City hospital.
Denem A. Null, 16, is also charged with first-degree murder after he was arrested Friday. According to the criminal complaint, he is accused of firing the gun that killed Bell.
Both Null and Taylor are being held at the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center on $1 million cash bail.
Hamblin said more arrests are possible.
"We still have resources that are investigating it, and hopefully we can come to a conclusion," Hamblin said.
