Linn property tax increase unjustifiable
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I would like Linn County officials to explain how a property tax increase during these economic times is justifiable. I find it ironic that the local-option sales tax extension didn't get voter approval, so now property taxes have been increased.
My fiance's grandmother is 89 and her property taxes increased $200 in the last fiscal year. There have been no home improvements. What is a person in her situation supposed to do? Get a job, stop eating or quit going to the doctor?
What this says to me is if you aren't going to voluntarily give us your money (local-option tax), then we will get money from you one way or the other (property tax increase.).
