Herb, Anna 'Marie'
Anna “Marie” Herb, 97, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Donald (Betty) Herb of Hiawatha, Duayne (Deb) Herb of Hiawatha, Lee (Phylis) Herb of Cedar Rapids, and Jim (Mary Herb of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughters-in-law, Betty Herb of Marion, Mary Herb of Cedar Rapids and Shirley Herb of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Elmer and Anna (Vanous) Stoneking; beloved son, Danny K. Herb (Aug. 31, 1996); and beloved granddaughter, Tami Jo Herb (Feb. 3, 1986).
Marie was born Oct. 7, 1914, to Samuel Elmer and Anna (Vanous) Stoneking in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Marie was a very strong compassionate lady, raising her five sons on her own, working various jobs to put herself through night school. She graduated in 1962 and started working at St. Luke's Hospital business office where she worked until she retired in 1979. Marie was an avid Cubs fan, never missing a game and wishing for a World Series win. Marie loved taking care of her yard and flowers, watching all of the wildlife, spending much of her time outdoors. She loved spending the holidays with her five sons and their families.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Casey Boyles and the staff of Northbrook Manor Care Center for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marie's honor may be directed to the family.
