Hemmer, Helen
Helen Hemmer, 88, of Monticello, died Monday evening, March 19, 2012, at the Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday March 23, at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a rosary will be held at 3:45 p.m. and a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m.

Helen Wolf was born March 23, 1923, at Dyersville, Iowa. She was the daughter of John L. and Mary Magdalena (Wilhelm) Wolf. Helen graduated from the Sacred Heart School in 1940. She was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married Edwin Hemmer and they later divorced. Helen worked for Monty Produce for 23 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandi Sampson and Sue (Andy) Ballou, both of Monticello, and Pat (Marvin) Goldsmith of Lexington, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Mary Wolfe, Harriet Neilson, Sue Wolf and Mary Jane Wolf; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Grace Terlisner and Yvonne Gordon; seven brothers, James, Pete, Jake, Tom, Donald, John and Wayne; and a son-in-law, Gary Sampson.
Helen enjoyed bus trips to Tama and playing bingo, watching the Cubs, Bulls and Hawkeyes, knitting blankets and being with her grandchildren.
