Pospisil, Alice Leona
Alice Leona Pospisil, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at her home. Services: 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Family will greet friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Alice is survived by her sister, Adelene; and children, Marie Bustos (Dan) of The Dalles, Ore., Dr. Mark Pospisil (Anne) of Cedar Rapids, and Audrey Pospisil of Tacoma, Wash.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Ian, Brianna, Julienne, Sarah, Tyler, Amy, Katelyn, Ellyn, Karyn, Sharyn, Kelli and Jason.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Charlie in 1989; and her infant sister, Wilma.
Alice Leona Pospisil was born Feb. 2, 1920, to Mike and Tillie (Kadera) Machula and was raised in The Green Castle area on the Iowa River Bottom, North Liberty, Iowa.
She worked in Cedar Rapids at Wilson's Meat Packing House as a young lady. She married Charles F. Pospisil on April 24, 1945. Together they farmed near Swisher for 43 years. In 1996, Alice moved to Cedar Rapids and in 2010 she moved to RidgeView Assisted Living.
Alice was a charter member of the Monroe Township Ladies Club. She was active in WFLA lodge #400 in Swisher, and Lodge Prokop Velky #137. Alice always had time for a game of euchre, pinochle or snozzle with her many friends. She was a dedicated walker who enjoyed walking for many years at Westdale Mall. Alice traveled many times to Oregon to visit her grandchildren and they have fond memories of visiting Iowa. She was a doting grandmother and supporter of all of her grandchildren's many endeavors. Alice visited many foreign countries including China, Ireland, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Spain and Italy.
