Picone Sr., Frank J.
Frank J. Picone Sr., 89, of 940 Black Bear Bend in North Liberty, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
Frank chose to be cremated. His family will host an open house to celebrate his life on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the family home at 940 Black Bear Bend in North Liberty. Burial will be in the South Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nev. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Johnson County Visiting Nurses Association. Arrangements are being handled by Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.
Frank was born Sept. 2, 1920 in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of John and Angelina (Marino) Picone.
Growing up in Staten
Island, he graduated from high school and attended Wagner College, also in Staten Island. Frank married Elizabeth Ponnozzi on June 4, 1944 in Staten Island.
While attending college, Frank sold cars to help support his family. He then worked as a color chemist for the Revlon Corporation and was head of their lipstick division for over twenty years, retiring in 1977.
Frank served during World War II as a navigator with the Army Air Corp.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth; son, Frank Jr. and his wife Debra of North Liberty, daughter Angela Picone and her wife Debbie of Los Angeles, California; granddaughter, Ashley Pettit of North Liberty. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
