Police have arrested a second person in the armed robbery of a Cedar Rapids liquor store last month.
Jeremy T. Dyson, 18, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with first-degree robbery in the Sept. 15 hold-up at Point Liquor and Tobacco, 4107 Center Point Rd. NE. He is accused of robbing the store with 22-year old Aaron L. Jackson, of Cedar Rapids, according to a criminal complaint.
Police said two masked men entered the store shortly after midnight and forced clerk Fawad Nawaz to get on the floor. Owner Javed Khan, 37, said the suspects took about $2,800 in cash from the register, along with several bottles of liquor and cigarettes.
Jackson is accused of pointing a gun at the clerk and threatening to kill him, according to court documents. Police identified Jackson through surveillance photo and later linked Dyson to crime when they found his fingerprints at the crime scene.
Officers arrested Dyson after a burglary Tuesday at 1811 Third St. SW. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said police discovered a TV and DVD were stolen when an alarm went off shortly after 11 a.m. The victim mentioned Dyson's name to police as a possible suspect, because he dated her daughter in the past.
"From the very beginning, she suspected he was involved," Hamblin said.
About two hours after the burglary, the daughter went to Siegel's Jewelry and Loan, 3525 First Ave. SE, and caught Dyson trying to pawn the electronics, police said. Dyson left the store without getting money, and officers found him a short time later in the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue SE, after the victim spotted him there.
Dyson came to the police station and was arrested for third-degree burglary and second-degree theft, in addition to the liquor store robbery. He was taken to the Linn County Jail, where remained Thursday in lieu of $41,000 bond.
