Sommer, Jennabelle 'Jenny' R.
Jennabelle “Jenny” R. Sommer, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at The Meth-Wick Community / Woodlands, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service, celebrating her life, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Survivors include her loving husband, Warren; sons, Steven of Ankeny and Craig (Kim) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Christine, Kaitlyn, Shalee and Jonathon Sommer; and sisters, Jo Anne (Carroll) Engelhardt of Moorhead, Minn., Ann (Jim) Bell of Austin, Texas and Leonard Hartman of Stuart, Iowa.
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elizabeth Turner.
Jennabelle Rose Hartman was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Frances (Leonard) Hartman. After graduating from Adel High School in 1954, she attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1958, with a degree in Home Economics. On June 23, 1962, she married Warren F. Sommer in Cedar Rapids. Jenny taught for many years, including in West Liberty for one year, and in Cedar Rapids at Roosevelt, Wilson, Taft, Jefferson and St. Patrick's schools. Her last employment was at Iowa Electric in the accounting department, retiring in 1999.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Ruth Circle. She enjoyed sewing and was active in scouting.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Luke's Hospice.
