Conference tournament time

This weekend marks the start of championship season for wrestling programs in Eastern Iowa. The majority of conference tournaments will be held this weekend with next weekend's sectional meets marking the start of the postseason.The Mississippi Valley Conference highlights area events. Iowa City West will attempt to win its eighth straight MVC Super Meet title and ninth overall in head coach Mark Reiland's 12-year tenure. The tournament begins with a Parade of Champions at 9:50 a.m. at Cedar Rapids Xavier with the first round starting at 10 a.m. An awards ceremony is scheduled for after the finals.West Delaware will host the Wamac Conference tournament in Manchester. The 16-team field opens competition at 10 a.m. Independence is the defending champion.East Buchanan will host the Tri-Rivers Conference tournament in Winthrop. Monticello won its first Tri-Rivers Conference tournament team title last year and will be among the top contenders along with Alburnett, which is ranked fifth in 1A. Action is set for 10 a.m.Sumner-Fredericksburg is hosting the Upper Iowa Conference tournament at Sumner, starting at 11 a.m. MFL MarMac is attempting to win its seventh UIC tournament title.Waverly-Shell Rock will host the Northeast Iowa Conference tournament, trying to win its seventh straight championship. The tournament begins at 10 a.m.The Cedar Valley Conference tournament will be held at Wilton at 10 a.m.
