Maxine M. Patton, 98, of Marion, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at her residence at Summit Pointe surrounded in prayer by family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Pastor Mike Morgan. A visitation will be held one hour before the celebration at the chapel. Maxine's body has been donated to the University of Iowa. An inurnment will take place at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Maxine was born May 3, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, to Harry and Mabel (Gorton) Kepler. She graduated from Grant High School with the class of 1935. On May 15, 1939, she married Kenneth P. Patton in Northwood, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born.
Maxine had been a resident of Marion since 1969. She was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Wednesday Study Club for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and loved the outdoors, especially gardening, flowers and bird watching.
She is survived by her sons, Terry L. (Mary) Patton of St. Paul, Minn., and K. Donald (Janice) Patton of Algona; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Williams; and brother-in-law, Don Willmott, both of Cedar Rapids; as well as many special friends and family members who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 58 years, Kenneth; sister, Loretta Willmott; and brothers-in-law, Don Williams and Dale Patton.
Memorial donations may be made to Camp Courageous or the Marion First United Methodist Church.
