Lewellen, William Gene 'Bill'
William Gene “Bill” Lewellen, 84, a resident of Summit Pointe Senior Living Community of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to service time on Monday. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sisters, Shirley (Robert) Bishop of Terre Haute, Ind., and Suzanne Zarley of Altoona. Nieces and nephews include Ronald (Marsha) Danielson and Steven (Lori) Danielson of Terre Haute, Ind., Barbara Chapman of Indianapolis, Janet (Patrick) Coogan of Bettendorf, Scott Zarley of Killeen, Texas, and Kristin Zarley of Frederick, Md.; as well as several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Bill was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clifford and Rowena Lewellen. Following graduation from McKinley High School, he served during World War II as a staff sergeant in General Patton's 3rd Army. He then attended Iowa State University, majoring in horticulture, and married Beatrice LaVonne Veatch on Sept. 11, 1949, in Webster City. They opened Lewellen Florist as original tenants in Town and Country Shopping Center in 1956, retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Summit Pointe Senior Living Community and Iowa Hospice for their kindness and care.
