Bennie J. Wheat, 86, of Goodyear, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 23, at home after a battle with heart failure.
Services are Monday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity St. James United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carol Sundberg will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. There also will be funeral services held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at Nobles Chapel United Methodist Church in Elberfeld, Ind., with visitation held an hour before services. Committal service will follow in the Nobles Chapel Cemetery.
Bennie was born in Glasgow, Ky., on Feb. 10, 1931, the son of Arkery and Orean Wheat. He graduated from Newburgh High School (Indiana), and attended the University of Evansville. Bennie was a U.S. Marine and a veteran of the Korean conflict. As a distribution center manager, he worked for Producer's Inc., Trammel Crowe and Klein Tools Corp. Bennie enjoyed gardening, flowers, and keeping a perfect yard. He also enjoyed going to concerts and traveling to all parts of the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 56 years, Edith.
Left to cherish Bennie's memories is his son, Michael, of Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
