Williams, Donald E.
Donald E. Williams, 82, passed away at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iowa City, on Jan. 21, 2010. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. David Grandon officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phylis Williams; his children, LuAnne (Chris) Breckner of Coralville, Carolyn (Rod) Hilleshiem of Marion and Randy Williams of Grundy Center; brothers, Richard of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Lyle (Lyn) of Knoxville; grandchildren, Amanda, Carrie, Alexis and Zachary Burns, Dustin and Misty Blank, Wesley, Nicholas and Tyler Hilleshiem; many devoted nieces and nephews; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Donna Burns; grandson, Barton Burns; and granddaughter, Megan Burns.
He was born June 20, 1927, in Adair County, Iowa, the son of Bill and Velma (Sickels). He faithfully served his country in the Navy. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. He married Phylis Holsinger on June 30, 1951, at First Christian Church in Waterloo in a double wedding ceremony with Richard and Emily (Dodge) Williams. He retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 33 years of service.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
A memorial fund has been established in Donald's memory.
