Hoge, Ivan Edwin 'Ike'
Ivan Edwin “Ike” Hoge, 94, of Anamosa, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa after a short stay. Family will greet friends at noon Monday, July 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside services: 2 p.m., Springville Cemetery, Springville, by the Rev. Edwin Moreano of Above and Beyond Hospice of Jones County.
Ivan “Ike” was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Linn County, Iowa, the third son of seven children born to John and Laura (Smith) Hoge. Ike graduated in 1935 from Springville High School, where he played basketball and baseball. Throughout his life, he enjoyed sports and outdoor activities, playing golf until 2005. On Sept. 2, 1939, he was united in marriage to Glendolyn Jones at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ike entered the Army in 1944 and proudly served in the Pacific until the war ended and he was honorably discharged in 1946. He retired in 1974 from hauling milk after 22 years.
Ike is survived by his wife, Glendolyn “Sis,” of 71 years; his children, Ron (Sandi) of Plymouth, Mich., and Dee (Vic) Wallace of Jackson, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alma (Len) Keen of Bloomington, Ind., and Ellen (Chuck) Day of Johnston; and several nieces and nephews.
