Hosch, Nicholas F.
Nicholas F. Hosch, 84, of 603 Fifth Ave. SW, Cascade, died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. Services for Nicholas will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 5 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Hosch of Cascade; nine children, Monica Kurth of Davenport, Veronica (Jim) Spaight of Marion, Ruth Ann (David) James of Coralville, William “Bill” (Patrice) Hosch of Cascade, Beverly (Marvin) Pospisil of Hiawatha, Mark (Karen) Hosch of Bernard, Sally Rhudy of North Manchester, Ind., JoAnn Hosch of Davenport, and Amy (Jonathan) Bell of Colgate, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Moriarity of Cascade.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Hosch; and three sisters, Mary Callahan, Clara Weber and Florence Stocks.
Nicholas was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Garryowen, Iowa, the son of John N. and Mary Ellen (O'Brien) Hosch. He received his education in the Garryowen area schools. On Oct. 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Monica Rollinger at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade. The couple farmed in the
Bernard area until their retirement. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 930. Nick served for 25 years on the Parish Council for St. Martin's Parish.
