McCartney, Maycell P. (Fay)
Maycell P. (Fay) McCartney, 56, of Rushville, Ill., passed away at 1:55 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at her home.
She was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of the late Raymond and Phyllis (Gleason) Fay. She married Jeffry L. McCartney on Sept. 20, 1996, in Rushville and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marcy Loper and husband John stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and Lindsey Sabraw and husband Daniel stationed at Spangdahlem, Germany; two stepsons, Doug McCartney and wife Kathy of Latham, and Andrew McCartney of Beardstown; one stepdaughter, Amy Johnson and husband Brett of Savoy; three grandchildren, Logan and Riley Loper and Daelen McCartney; two sisters, Martha “Marty” Hochstatter and husband Ben of Davenport and Shelly Svoboda of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Maycell first worked at automotive parts stores in Beardstown and Rushville. She later served as activity director then social services director at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville. She then worked as manager of SAIL until 1997. Currently, she was a domestic goddess, who loved to fish and garden. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and boogie boarding in the ocean. Maycell had an infectious sense of humor and treasured being Mema to her grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Wood Funeral home in Rushville, with David Haney officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Interment will follow at a later date at the Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Memorials are suggested to the Maycell McCartney Memorial Fund for various food banks.
