Nauman, Carla S.
Carla S. Nauman, 41, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Dubuque, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at home of natural causes. Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Dubuque. The Rev. Daniel Knepper will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may greet the family from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Carla was born Dec. 9, 1971, in Dubuque, the daughter of Kenneth and Marilyn (Hansen) Nauman. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School with the class of 1990, and continued her education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1994 with her B.A. degree in psychology and sociology.
Carla enjoyed competing in high school and collegiate track and field, winning the Iowa State High School Discus Champion title and attending National Division III (collegiate) Track and Field Championship meets.
She was employed with Four Oaks in Cedar Rapids counseling teens. Helping kids was her passion that she didn't think twice about putting her heart and soul into her job. Her efforts were appreciated when she received the Child Care Worker of the Year Award in 2012.
Carla enjoyed traveling to national parks, watching movies, and listening to music. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Duke basketball team.
She was a generous person who gave freely to many charitable organizations. As the oldest, Carla was like a second mother to her siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her father, Kenneth Nauman of Dubuque; her mother, Marilyn Nauman of Kansas City, Mo.; her siblings, Deana (Ryan) Kueter and their son, Noah, of Kansas City, Mo., Allen (fiancee Crystal) Nauman and Steven Nauman, both of Dubuque, Sara Nauman of Kansas City, Mo., and Gina (Chad Wilming) Nauman of Cedar Falls; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
