Sandeen, Arlene P. DeWitt Kail
Arlene P. DeWitt Kail Sandeen 92, of Gowrie, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the Gowrie Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the United Methodist Church, Gowrie, with Pastor Jane Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Township Cemetery, Rinard. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.
Arlene is survived by her son, Paul DeWitt of Woden; stepsons, Paul (Rita) Kail of Farnhamville, Andy (Cindy) Kail of Farnhamville, Steve (Vicki) Kail of Littleton, Colo., and Paul (Tracy) Sandeen of Cedar Falls; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Siemann of Lohrville; and brother, Cleo (Jean) Cafferty of Gowrie.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Russell DeWitt, Rudy Kail and Richard Sandeen; her parents, Walter Raymond and Carrie (Pirie) Cafferty; and sister, Velma Lyle.
Arlene Pirie Cafferty was born April 6, 1919, in Farnhamville. She graduated from Rinard High School with the class of 1937. In 1940, she was united in marriage to John Russell DeWitt, and the couple farmed in the Rinard and Farnhamville area. Russell passed away in 1979. In 1981, she married Rudy Kail and the couple lived in Farnhamville. Rudy passed away in 1996. In 2000, Arlene moved to Cedar Rapids, where she married Richard Sandeen. The couple moved to Gowrie in 2004. Richard passed away in 2007. Arlene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gowrie.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family or Iowa Hospice.
