Dennert Jr., Pastor Robert A.
Pastor Robert A. Dennert Jr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 2:30 p.m. at the chapel on Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Dee Dennert, his children, R. Bruce (Jan) Dennert of Mukwonago, Wis., Kathlyn Marie (Edward) Ebert of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Paul Marcus (Susan) Dennert of Waukesha, Wis., and Janet D. Barbessi (John DePuma) of Bethany, Conn.; his sister, Anna Marie Dennert of Boone; his brothers, Donald Dennert of Boone and the Rev. John (Mary) Dennert of Freemont, Neb. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Naomi Grace Dennert; infant daughter, Carolyn Dennert; a brother, Walter G. Dennert MD; and a sister, the Rev. Victoria Moulton.
Robert was born Jan. 8, 1922, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Robert and Anna Dennert Sr. He married Naomi Grace Russell on Jan. 8, 1943, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She died in 1963. He then married Juanita Dee Maddox on June 22, 1965, in Radcliffe, Iowa. Robert started his professional ministry at Center Point and Alice, Iowa and ended back in Cedar Rapids. Throughout his career he served in Illinois, Texas, Wisconsin and other assignments in Iowa as well. He graduated from Boone High School in 1939, attended John Fletcher College near Oskaloosa, and graduated from Coe College in 1943. Robert graduated from Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Ill. (now Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.) He was ordained in the Evangelical Church which became the Evangelical United Brethren Church and is now the United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed books, photography, music, the outdoors and mission work. Robert's entire life was dedicated to serving others.
