Scheer, Vivian Iola
Vivian Iola Scheer, 91, a resident of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center, Coralville, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, from complications of osteoporosis. Inurnment will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service and celebration of Vivian's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
She is survived by her four sons, Harold (Eunice) Scheer of Iowa City, John (Sue) Scheer of Ashland, Mo., Dean (Wendy) Scheer of Cedar Rapids and Mark (Ruth Ann) Scheer of Lisbon; a sister, Beulah Raleigh of Durand, Wis.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin C. Scheer; and infant daughter, Bernita May Scheer.
A lifelong Eastern Iowan farm person, Vivian Iola Lewis Scheer was born July 23, 1920, in rural Center Point, the daughter of Karl and Ruby (Notbohm) Lewis. She was united in marriage on Feb. 20, 1942, to Edwin C. Scheer in Marion, Iowa.
Vivian enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, especially for family birthday parties. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and experiencing the natural beauty of our country and visiting friends. Vivian enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and time with her family. Vivian was an intelligent and vibrant woman with a curiosity for learning, and a healthy sense of humor. She was a caring person and dedicated to helping others.
Vivian will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the donor's choice. A fund has been established for the benefit of Vivian's son with special needs.
