Panosh, Lena M.
Lena M. Panosh, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Juhl will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel (Sue) Panosh of Denver, Colo., and Dennis (Peggy) Panosh of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Wilbur Newswander of Milan, Ill.; five grandchildren, Danielle Panosh, Nick Panosh, Jessica (Bryan) Netolicky, Chase Panosh and Kara Panosh; and two great-grandchildren, Maxton Panosh and Sophia Netolicky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence C. Panosh; grandchild, Andrea Sue Panosh; a sister, Irene Hurt; and brothers, Wallace and Gerald Newswander.
Lena was born Nov. 28, 1921 in Aledo, Ill., the daughter of Otis and Ethel Mawby Newswander. She married Clarence C. Panosh on May 30, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. Lena was owner and operator of C & L Grocery Store for 15 years in Cedar Rapids and Lena's Friendly Tavern in Belle Plaine. She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church, a volunteer for Mercy Medical Center and an avid Cubs Fan. She and Clarence loved to dance and listen to Polka music.
