Jones, Vernon A.
Vernon A. Jones, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion. A memorial service celebrating Vernon's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Julie Freese officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jorita; daughters, Karen (Curt) Jamieson of Robins and Jan (Rick) Netolicky and Pamela (Tom) Kurtz, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michele (Bruce) Menzel, Bryan (Jessica) Netolicky, Greg (Emily) Netolicky, Chad (Kelly) Netolicky, Zach (girlfriend Emily Washburn) Naggatz, Travis (Lindsey) Naggatz and Austen Naggatz; great-grandchildren, Jae, Ty, Sophia, Gus, Hank, Max, Aleah and Tyler; and special pet, Zoey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leighton, Gerald and Edwin.
Vernon Allan Jones was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Hillsboro, Texas, the son of William and Clyde (Harrington) Jones. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On Oct. 17, 1955, he married Jorita Skipworth in Kaufman, Texas. Vernon was an electronics engineer for many years at Rockwell Collins and was extremely proud of his contributions to the Apollo Space Program. Following retirement, he owned Jones Old Time Radio, a repair service for Duffy's Classic Cars. He will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Hospice of Mercy or Linn Manor Care Center, Marion.
