York, Jacob Prentice
Jacob Prentice York, 95, of Tipton, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. A memorial service will take place at a future date.
Prentice was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of George and Bess (Bohrer) York. He was a graduate of Tipton High School, class of 1932. On Jan. 22, 1938, Prentice was united in marriage to Stella G. Naber in Clinton, Iowa. After many years of farming, Prentice and Stella moved to Tipton and owned and operated York Real Estate and Insurance until they retired.
Prentice was a member of the Tipton Rotary Club, served on the Cedar County Assessor Board of Review for many years, and was active in Friends of the Tipton Public Library, as well as fundraising for the March of Dimes in Tipton. Prentice was associated with The Church of the Brethren and the United Church of Christ.
Prentice is survived by his sons, Jerry and wife Carol York of Cape May, N.J., and Phillip York of Lomita, Calif.; grandson, Dr. Aaron York and wife Daisy Rockwell of Lebanon, N.H., and their daughter, Serafina Rose York; granddaughter, Gillian and husband Butch Marcello of Robinsville, N.J.; and sister, Mary Achenbach of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A general memorial fund has been established in memory of Prentice.
