Professional jury system needed
The Gazette Opinion Staff

We may have the best justice system in the world but it still sucks.
Maybe it's time we get rid of our amateur, jury-of-peers system and convert to a professional full-time jury system where jurors are trained professionals who know all aspects of the law, don't have to be educated, understand such things as DNA and don't screw up like what happened in the Casey Anthony trial.
It has been suggested (and I fully concur) that we should consider replacing our 12-person jury of untrained peers with a five-person jury of professional judges and lawyers who are full-time jurors and paid appropriately.
First it was OJ Simpson and now Casey Anthony - enough is enough.
