McVeigh, Maude
Maude McVeigh, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. today, followed by a rosary at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Maude, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, is survived by two sons, James (Geralyn) of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Daniel (Janis) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mary (Dennis) Monma of California City, Calif., and Janet (Charles) Goddard of Fairfax; 10 grandchildren, James, Shannon, Chad, Kelly, Patrick, Chris, C J, Holly, Keok, and Danielle; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Maude was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, James McInerney; a sister, Mary Shepard; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla.
Maude was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of James Edward McInerney and Maude Ethel Duncalf. She married James Donald McVeigh on Jan. 22, 1947 in Van Horne. She was a former employee of the Killians and Von Maur stores, a schoolteacher at All Saints, St. Matthew's and St. Jude, and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
