Krauel, Mary A.
Mary A. Krauel, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died early Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, where a vigil service begins at 4:30 p.m.
Mary is survived by her sister, Frances Nielsen and husband Ray of Central City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert “Willie”; her parents, Peter and Antonia Stechcon; sisters, Tessie Keskel, Nellie Schultz and Ann Bradis; and brothers, John, Alex, Anthony and Peter Stechcon.
Mary was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. She married Wilbert B. “Willie” Krauel on Aug. 8, 1938. He died Sept. 17, 1997. Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She and her husband enjoyed going fishing in their younger years.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary's name.
