Gerber-Shahan-Karrick, Jean

Jean Gerber-Shahan-Karrick, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on March 27, 2012. No services are to be held at this time. Arrangements entrusted to Iowa Cremation.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; sister, JoAnne Levenhagen; many nieces and nephews; and three stepdaughters, Stephanie and Beverly Kerrick and Sandra Howell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Phoebe Gerber; her brother, John; and her son, Mike Shahan.

Jean was born Jan. 30, 1923, on a farm which is now a part of Cedar Hills. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. She married Keith Shahan in 1943; they were later divorced. She married Roger Karrick in 2003. Jean worked at several clothing stores and later opened her own shop, Jean's Fashions. She also had her own antiques shop at the Sanctuary in Marion.

Jean was a loving mother, wife and good friend to many and will be greatly missed. She found great pleasure in loving her cats.
