Darlene Mae Gingerich, 91, of Iowa City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Simpson Memorial Home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the Rev. Jeff Tackaberry officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A reception will follow at The Kirkwood Room. Burial will be at Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice and American Parkinson Disease Association, Iowa Chapter.
Darlene was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Oxford, the daughter of Herbert Gegenheimer and Emily Mae Paul. She was raised on a farm west of Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School. In 1943, she moved to Iowa City. Darlene married Lester Gingerich on June 27, 1950.
Darlene cared for children in her home for 33 years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed playing bingo, reading and time spent with family.
Darlene is survived by her children, Rebecca Lynn Kober (Leland) of West Liberty, Leslie "Todd" Gingerich (Kelly) of Iowa City and Benet (Bill) Duncan of Farmington, N.M.; five grandchildren, Jessica Kober, Courtney Crees (Shawn), Koren Miller, Bradley and Emma Gingerich; and seven great-grandchildren, Kohlton, Logan, Staci, Jonathyn, Austyn, Andrew and Camden.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; and her brothers, Paul (Evelyn) and George (Maxine).
