Henry Martin Stueland Jr. was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Clinton, Iowa, to Henry Sr. and Katherine Gohlman Stueland. He graduated from Calamus High School in 1941. Hank married Georgia Brown on June 2, 1946, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Calamus. He farmed, raised purebred Angus cattle, sold Pioneer seed corn, and sold farm machinery and automobiles. In 1970, Hank and Georgia and family established Stueland Chevrolet-Olds in Calamus. A devastating fire destroyed the dealership in May 1982, but they rebuilt on the same location, and also opened Stueland Auto Center in Tipton. After their retirement in 1995, Hank and Georgia moved from Calamus to Tipton. On Jan. 30, 1999, Hank's beloved wife Georgia died after 52 years of marriage. Hank resided at Wheatland Manor since March 2005.
Hank was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. He served many years on the Calamus school board, and ran the scoreboard and clock at countless baseball and basketball games. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa men's basketball fan. He had a special love of quarter horses and collie dogs. He was a member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association, the Iowa/American Quarter Horse Association, and the Eastern Iowa/American Angus Association.
Hank was a man of deep faith and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was very important to him that his children, grandchildren and family shared the same faith.
Pallbearers will be Matthew M. Stueland, Scott Stueland, Lucas Ramige, Chad Grimm, Patt, Binning, Paul “Vern” Lichtenstein and Tim Strottman.
